10 jun 2009 - Canadian mobile internet use reaching new highs
Mobile Internet use Canada is reaching new levels of use, with 21 percent of mobile consumers using their mobile cell phones to browse web pages and access e-mail, according to The Nielsen Company.
Canada is experiencing similar growth as seen in other parts of the world - increased device capability, smartphones, unlimited downloads, and advertising campaigns that increase mobile internet awareness.
New consumers often use the same types of sites they are familiar with portals, e-mail, weather, news and social networking are all high on the list.
According to Eric Puterbaugh, director, client services, Nielsen Online, "The mobile market in Canada has grown rapidly since we first reported on the data in Q4 2008. Every country has unique needs for mobile audience measurement driven by carriers, handset availability and media brands focused on their market. While we see many global media properties on the list of sites, Canadian media brands are actively extending their reach into the mobile channel."
