20 jun 2009 - MasterCard Launches US Money Send Mobile Service
MasterCard has announced its mobile MoneySend service is now available to customers in the USA.
The service allows customers to send and receive funds via SMS text message to various types of mobile devices and PCs.
The service Obopay service, lets registered users transfer funds to anyone. MasterCard feel customers need a mobile, secure payment method that eliminates the need for writing or cashing checks, visiting ATMs, cash machines or wiring money. Mobile payment services are still relatively new in the USA.
A company statement described how consumers will be able to use MoneySend with a MasterCard prepaid card issued by The Bancorp Bank, and then link their mobile cell phone number to send or receive money. Future services will also allow access to checking accounts, as well as MasterCard debit and credit cards.
