According to the 2008-2009 China Mobile Internet Industry Development Report China Mobile Value-added service (VAS) market reached 125.13 billion Yuan by end of 2008 (18.3 billion in USD)
This shows a 19.2% year on year increase from 2007-2008, which reached 105 billion Yuan, although the growth rate was lower than 2007.
One of the biggest increases was in the volume of mobile phone game downloads. Mobile internet users in China are downloading more games than ever before. An expected growth rate of 20% or more each year before 2012 for gamers.
In 2007, the market size of the online games worldwide reached US$ 8.6 billion, showing a year-on-year increase of 32.2%. Since 2003, the market size of the online game has been increasing at a annual rate of over 30% each year, up two and a half times during the past five years. It is expected over the next 4 to 5 years, the global market of online games will maintain a double-digit increase and it will reach US$19.1 billion by 2011.
