04 may 2009 - Llandudno's Great Orme In Wales
Llandudno is situated in Conwy, North Wales. The Great Orme and the Little Orme is situated on either end, with the Irish Sea on one side and the estuary of the River Conwy on the other. It has the longest pier in Wales, the Victorian Pier at 2,295 foot long.

The Great Orme has one main road, the Marine Drive that winds up and around the Great Orme, either walk, drive in your own car or take a coach tour. If walking, there are many footpaths to choose from, which personally I feel is the best way to explore this fascinating mountain.

The Great Orme is home to feral goats; also you will find different species of birds, such as fulmars, kittiwakes, razorbills and guillemots. As well as plants and flowers some of which are rare and not found anywhere else in Britain.

As you climb the Great Orme, you can stop and rest along the way for refreshments at various small cafes. If you have the stamina to walk all the way up to the top of the Great Orme, you will find the ‘Summit Complex’ with its own bar and restaurant. Originally it was called the ‘Telegraph Inn’ relaying messages between Holyhead and Liverpool about sailing ships in the area. During the Second World War it was used as a radar station for the RAF.

On the northern side of the Great Orme is the church of Saint Tudno with its churchyard and cemetery, still in use today. It was built in the 12th century and dedicated to St Tudno. Another attraction is the Great Orme Bronze Copper Mines. The ‘Happy Valley’ is situated on the lower slopes and there is also the ‘Haulfre Gardens’ to visit. There are many other attractions on the Great Orme including extensive gardens, a putting green, ski slope and a toboggan run.
